2142 Server Update

I just received a message from a player asking that the BF 2142 server be updated to client 1.51. He also said that the client has over 300 active servers, I then replied to let him know that I would bring it up to you guys to get some feedback on this proposal.

So, what do you guys think about doing this? And EA has released a full 1.51 patch, as well.

If the server is in 1.5 and you are in 1.51, you will not be able to join and vice-versa. The best way to possibly go about doing an update is having the members of the clan download the patch, then save it on the desktop or something, other than the downloads folder, and give a few days or so notice on the site as well as the server, just to let people know. Bit of work, but if done well and correctly, it would be a smooth transition with more possibilities for people joining from BF2142 and branching out to members of other games as well.

Hmm. I love how EA didn't tell us about the new patch. Haha. We'll update the server I guess. :P

Sounds good General. I'll let the people know that I talk to about it. Can you give us a notice on when you update it though? I only ask for a couple days or so because I have to uninstall the game, then re-download it, then download 1.4 and 1.5 again.

Lost my CD copy of the game so I had to download it through EADM to get it for free again, it sucks because if you wait a week, you can't install patches properly. Yay for having to wait like 5 hours just to play on a new patch. :S

By the by, I have a CD key if any one wants a new account. Just download BF2142 through a torrent, make sure it's not the demo as well. I'll leave it open for any one that doesn't have the game though.

No, you wouldn't have to. Try installing it first, if it says 'You have this version installed already' or any thing of the sort, then you have to uninstall.

Our server provided automatically provides the latest patch for us. The fact that the server is still running on version 1.50 suggest that either

1. Patch 1.51 has not been officially released yet or

2. They are not going to update the server (or do not have the means to do it yet).

Huh, I'll do a clean install anyways. Last time I went to 1.51, I used the beta patch and it still says I'm only running version 1.5.

Yea, we don't have 1.51 installed. I just did a clean install on 1.51 and Real Extreme Pistol and the EC Knife server wont let me join because of me having a newer version. :/

I know a way around if you guys want to play on any version you want, in-case you have a favorite server that is not on 1.5. Fairly simple to do, just install of the patch updates and edit your registry keys to the version you want to play. Let me toy with it a bit more and you may only have to change one number to play on any server that has the patch update from 1.25 to 1.51

Never mind, that didn't work. The only other way I can think of that would work is to have multiple copies of the game and just apply updates as you want. Haven't tried that though, but I may as well, seeing as how I now have to reinstall the game just to roll back to 1.5. :/

You should just delete the 1.51 version you installed. Then you will be able to play on the servers.

ya my v1.50 is working fine so i dont really want to install the new one unless i have to

Doesn't work for me like that Squables, already tried. :( I'm going to roll back my C drive and see if that works, though.

And I talked to my friend, Diceman, who is head admin of the Real Extreme Titan server, and he said that they were supposed to be bumped up to 1.51 as well, but the server company hasn't done it yet. They have a "ticket' for it to be done or something, still means not done. lol

oh so our surver will be updated? .... and I know Diceman too.

Ohh, I found the official release thread. Sneaky bastards only posted the official one on the UK forums. Clickie for the release thread and clickie for the download thread. Such a pain to actually find all this. :/

Yea, that's it. The EA forums have separate divisions based in several countries. The main EA forum doesn't have the updates, just a guy pointing every one to the UK forum, which is where the release info and download pages were, and is where I found them the first time, but forgot about the separate country forums.

It should work for you easily. But it's your computer and you know more of it than I do so...

Yea, already changed the registry key values, reverted the C drive components and deleted the BF2142 cache logs, along with the patch download. Nothing. EADM is lame.
